The ’01 Boys Black Elite’s gritty semi-final performance against a team that had out-scored their competition 22 to 1 in group play propelled the team into the final. Early control of the final was secured by FC York when they converted a penalty kick. The ’01 Black Elite’s defense led by Vince Buccafuri and Vito Leone stiffened. This allowed the midfield led by the Maestro, Colin Burns, to start controlling the tempo of the game. A cross in the box found Jack Galt’s head. He beautifully slipped the ball under the goalie’s arm to tie the game. The second half started frantically until the Maestro waved his wand. Colin Burns found the back of the net with a ripper from 20 yards out. With roughly seven minutes left in the game, Sam Steele hustled to glory. A 40 yard run and a toe poke by Sam successfully sealed the game. A few individuals may have been highlighted, but the team succeeded because everyone contributed. When the whistle blew, the ’01 Boys Black Elite walked off the field together as the U16 President’s Cup State Champions.
